Tshirt Designs

Here's this weeks design link: http://abduzeebo.com/inspiration-20-awesome-t-shirt-illustrations-glennz . It has some great thumbnail designs for t-shirts. While I really enjoyed the humor that the artist used with his works it wasn't the thing that attracted me the most to the designs. Mostly I really appreciated the designs as I know that getting that quality of illustration from a computer isn't that easy. I have had several attempts at creating my own illustrations for t-shirts come short of what I wanted simply because I don't quite have the expertise using Adobe Illustrator to get such a polished look to my creation. I expect that with time and a little more experience creating illustrations as shown in the link above will be a reality rather than mess that I create.

Process of a wedding invitation

I just recently stumbled upon a great blog of a man that recently got married: http://www.cabel.name/2008/10/on-wedding-design.html In his blog he details the process he went through to design his wedding invitations. With all the details from where the inspiration came from to the decisions that created the final product this is a great site to simply enjoy the design process.

I especially like how the guy chose to use letter press the invitations. I have always been a fan of letter press as the means of printing not only for the nostalgic effect it has on me but also the physical appearance it has lying on the paper. Can't resist that emboss!

Thoughts on coding

Thinking back on my experience as an unexperienced IT person led my to believe this: You can learn anything you want, no matter the complexity of the issue, if you want to. However, there are several things that can effect your ability to learn the subject.

One thing, that deterred my learning, was that I never truly was passionate about learning coding and advancing my knowledge and abilities for my job. With this as the case it was hard to settle down and focus my studies as much as I needed to solidify my knowledge in the ways  needed to.

A second thing that caused a defect in my learning is that my schooling now was almost countering anything I learned at work. Not to fall into any cliches but really my art and my work thought processes were separated by two hemispheres in my brain. Without much critical thinking or problem solving needed in my art classes my ability over time to do these things has lessened. For the entirety of my job I really felt like I was being pulled apart by two separate worlds.

Blog topic

My switch of blog topics will be focused on the other time consumer in my life: Design. This topic differs with my first one because I have much more of a passion for this subject.

To allow you to have an insight any my views of good design I'll give a few examples of my favorite designs, designers, and any other news from the design world from week to week.

First selection up: www.vectortuts.com Not only does this site provide incredible, in-depth tutorials for photoshop and illustrator it also is very well laid out. The color scheme, hierarchy, and overall layout is very well down. If not for some additional learning some times I can just visit the site to enjoy some good design every once and awhile.

Change in me, change in blog

Recently I have come to the conclusion that I can no longer hold my full time job as an IT person if I am to concentrate on my schooling. For myself I have decided that my highest priority during this time of my life is being a student and therefor my decisions of what I should be doing should be based on that priority. The biggest factor of the encroachment of my job on my school work was the under estimation of the time that my first year in the graphic design program would take.

With this decision to resign from my job it is then necessary to switch the subject matter of this blog. I will, however, update this blog with old entries (written by hand) that I had intended to post before I was swamped with an avalanche of work.

What makes a good IT person

I have found that, in the end, no matter how knowledgeable an IT person may be it is the other employees that the IT person helps that makes him good or not.

Let me explain, what I mean by that the fellow employees make the IT person in the fact that the IT person relies on the employee because the employee will probably be the first person to witness the computer error. It is then that it is necessary that the employee accurately and effectively describe the problem to the IT person. If there is a failure of description or communication then the IT person starts off with a huge disadvantage when trying to solve the problem.

I gained this observation as I have found that with certain members of the staff that I work with I am more able to quickly diagnose and solve problems only because their description of problems and symptoms help me immensely.
